The genome sequence and gene prediction of Trametes versicolor ATCC 20869 have not been determined by the Joint Genome Institute (JGI), but were downloaded from CSFG on July 31, 2022. In order to allow comparative analyses with other fungal genomes sequenced by the JGI, a copy of this genome is incorporated into Mycocosm. Please note that this copy of the genome is not automatically updated. JGI tools were used to automatically annotate predicted proteins.

Trametes versicolor, basionym Boletus versicolor, a white-rot basidiomycete, grows on tree trunks and can be found all over the world in many different climates. Strain 52J was isolated from rotting elm stump and is able to degrade lignin, cellulose and hemicellulose simultaneously (1,2) as well as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and organic synthetic dyes (3). It is one of the most researched medicinal mushrooms (4). The genome of T. versicolor will allow the identification of new enzymes related to biomass degradation that could improve the current technology for bioproducts production and identification new secondary metabolites with use in medicine.
